Using the physical environment as a strategic lever for human wellbeing, behaviour, and performance
Many organisations are grappling with disengagement, burnout, poor collaboration, and resistance to returning to the office. These challenges are often treated as people or performance problems, yet they are frequently environment problems.
I deliver commercial keynotes that help business leaders understand how the physical workplace actively shapes behaviour, wellbeing, culture, and performance and how it can be used intentionally as a strategic lever to support both people and business outcomes.
If you want different behaviours at work, you need to design a different environment.
The Core Idea
The physical workplace is not a backdrop to work. It is one of the most powerful tools organisations have for influencing how people feel, behave, and perform. When environments are designed without considering human behaviour, they quietly undermine engagement, connection, and productivity. When they are designed with people in mind, they become a catalyst for stronger culture, collaboration, and sustainable performance.
What I Speak About
In this keynote, I explore how the physical workplace directly influences human behaviour and business performance, often more powerfully than policy, perks, or process.
Drawing on real commercial projects and lived outcomes, I cover:
- How layout shapes interaction, collaboration, and focus
- Why shared spaces matter more than individual workstations
- The role of movement, choice, and autonomy in reducing burnout
- How access to nature, light, and sensory balance impacts wellbeing
- Why offices that “look good” often still fail the people using them
This is not about trends or aesthetics. It is about designing environments that support how humans actually work.
What Makes This Keynote Different
My work sits at the intersection of design, human behaviour, and wellbeing.
As a fully qualified interior designer with decades of experience across complex commercial projects, I bring a practical, grounded perspective to workplace strategy.
My background in design education shapes how I communicate, translating complex ideas into insights leaders can understand, trust, and apply.
I don’t ask organisations to invest in design for design’s sake.
I help them see how the workplace is already shaping outcomes, whether intentionally or not.
Outcomes
Commercial audiences leave with:
- A new strategic lens for viewing the workplace
- Clear links between space, behaviour, and business outcomes
- Practical ideas that don’t require a full redesign
- A deeper understanding that people wellbeing is a performance strategy
- Language and confidence to make more intentional workplace decisions
This single shift in perspective often changes how leaders approach engagement, culture, and performance from that point forward.
Keynote Formats
This keynote can be delivered as:
- Conference keynote
- Leadership or executive session
- Corporate offsite or strategy day
- Industry or professional association event
- Content can be tailored to suit audience size, industry, and organisational context while maintaining the core message

Experience & Recognition
My work as a keynote speaker and interior designer is driven by a clear belief: “Interior design is a necessity, not a luxury.”
The spaces we inhabit shape how we feel, function, and connect, and everyone deserves environments that genuinely support them. I'm a regular presenter, guest speaker, and industry contributor, with experience speaking to a wide range of professional, business, and public audiences.
I have presented at major industry and lifestyle events including the:
- Sydney Home Show
- Renovate & Build Expo
- Hills Home Show & Lifestyle Expo
- HIA Expo, where I have appeared as an industry expert
Alongside live events, I’m a regular guest speaker on podcasts, contributing to conversations around human-centred design, wellbeing, business, and the impact of the physical environment on everyday life.
Education and mentorship are central to my work. I also regularly speak to councils, Rotary groups, retirement living communities, and emerging designers through TAFE NSW, including sessions at Nepean Design Centre.
Beyond public speaking, I am deeply committed to mentoring and giving back to the design community. I have mentored designers across a range of disciplines through Designer Chicks, a group that I and another colleague set up 15 years ago. This work is offered on a pro bono basis as a way of giving back to an industry I care deeply about and supporting designers who want to create meaningful, people-centred work.
My commitment to purposeful, human-centred design has been recognised nationally and locally through multiple awards, including the Australian Women's Small Business Champion Awards, where I was named Winner, Home Builder & Renovations for three consecutive years. I have also been a finalist in multiple national Australian business awards, a winner and finalist in numerous local business awards, and recognised across a range of industry and design award programs.
I am a professional member of the Design Institute of Australia (DIA), and an accredited Bathroom and Kitchen Designer.
