Before and after | Complete makeover of a tired bungalow
What a transformation this place has seen. Located in Thornleigh with uninterrupted views into an extensive bushland creek, this 1960s bungalow was completely made over from the roof down to its flooring and everything in between.

Bringing in the professionals
A couple with teenage kids purchased the hidden gem as a fixer upper a few years ago. Understanding the importance of bringing in professionals to get the best out of this undertaking, the owners turned to Inspired Spaces. They wanted to tap into the team’s wealth of knowledge and creativity.
Designing the floorplan
Taking advantage of the stunning views, the existing floor plan had to change. Inspired Spaces developed the floor plan options for the owners to make the final call on their favourite layout.
Kitchen relocation to soak in the views
Starting with the construction work in October 2017, the builder removed existing wall to allow for an open plan living/dining/kitchen area. By relocating the kitchen, the owners are now able to enjoy the outlook into the bushland while preparing their meals. With a smoke coloured mirror as the splashback, they don’t even have to turn around but to look at the mirror image of the bush behind their backs.

Finishes reference to the exteriors
The kitchen is now the home hub, showcasing the couple’s contemporary style with a touch of rustic and industrial. Hence, the stone benchtop with a rusted effect combined with a black sink and the same colour tapware. This references the roughness of the bushland they see in front of the window.

David Bromley’s artwork in focus
Continuing this theme, a wood-operated fireplace has been installed in the living room, with the logs stacked up on show. It draws attention towards the original David Bromley painting hanging right above. The art-loving couple is not afraid to make a statement, which also shows in their newly renovated bathroom. Here, they opted for wall tiles that are inspired by street art graffiti.
