About to embark on a new kitchen design journey and not sure what is on trend, here is our predictions. Kitchens are the heart of the home and one of the most expensive spaces to renovate. In Australia, our laid-back lifestyle, love for entertaining, and warm climate naturally lend themselves to spaces that flow seamlessly from the kitchen to the dining area and straight onto the outdoor deck or alfresco space.

Concealed kitchens create a seamless, clutter-free look by hiding appliances, countertops, and storage behind sleek panels or cabinetry. This kitchen design enhances the visual flow of open-plan spaces, making them appear larger and more modern. With the kitchen a big part of open plan living, people are looking for cabinetry that looks like furniture so that the kitchen blends effortlessly with the rest of your home. Concealed fridges and dishwashers—are now a staple. Rangehoods, once a standout feature, are now either seamlessly built-in or cleverly disguised as pendant lighting to maintain a polished look.

With the rise of multifunctional spaces in modern homes, concealed kitchens allow areas to transition from cooking zones to entertainment or workspaces without visual disruption. This flexibility is particularly useful in open-concept layouts or homes designed for remote work

One of my lusted after products is the combined boiling, sparkling, chilled, and ambient temperature water all combined into one tap.

Black and Black stainless-steel appliances are replacing the popular stainless steel we have seen for the last 15 years. With the rise in popularity of brushed brass, champagne, brushed gold and antique brass tapware and sinks, stainless steel appliances do not work. White appliances are harder to find, however I still use them if we have white cabinetry – blends in perfectly creating a more seamless finish.

Canopy rangehoods are now disappearing from the modern kitchen, people are realising how difficult they are to clean and the valuable real estate they take up especially in a small kitchen. Concealed rangehoods within overhead cupboards are popular. Statement concealed rangehoods are a great idea in larger kitchens.

Gooseneck mixers are still very popular due to their elegant, high-arched design, offering both a stylish focal point and excellent functionality. Pull-out taps, on the other hand, are making an impact on the market for their versatility and convenience, allowing users to easily rinse dishes or fill large pots with ease as are large single sinks over double. 

Undermount sinks continue to be popular for their sleek, seamless look, while deeper, larger, single sinks are in demand for practicality, especially in open-concept kitchen designs. Stainless steel remains a top choice for its durability, but composite and granite sinks are gaining traction for their scratch and stain resistance, offering a more luxurious feel.

With most people using a stone or manmade equivalent as a benchtop, the need for the ugly drainer has disappeared. My preference is for a drop-in sink to limit chipping of the stone, but this sink needs a very thin lip to allow it to sit almost flush.
